"I wish I could knit, but I just don't have the time."

If you're a knitter like me, you've heard this saying many times before. To these people, I just give a polite smile and laugh inside myself.

The trouble is not that these people don't have the time, it's that they can't (or simply don't know how to) multitask.

The true knitter doesn't need time for simply knitting. We have learned how to knit WHILE doing other things. We are the people who would never imagine simply sitting still and watching TV or a movie. No no, my friend,  this is valuable knitting time! Taking public transportation is not only helping the environment, we've got more knitting time! With the invention of e-readers, I can even knit while reading a book!

Whether it's paired with TV, movies, staff meetings, coffee with a friend, or family picnics, we sophisticated knitters are able to knit and purl without ever looking down. We can cable while still carrying on conversation, and some of us believe that knitting actually helps us to focus more and be better listeners.

I don't know about the rest of you, but since becoming an avid knitter, I think I have developed a strong case of what I call my "adult ADHD". I cannot focus or sit still unless there are a pair of needles in my hands! For me, knitting makes teacher meetings fly by, and I've even learned to walk around with my knitting during yard duty! (I promise my eyes are on the playground, not my knitting!)

So for all those who think they don't have time... I beg to differ. You just need a lesson or two in multitasking :)
